Do we have all we need for life?

Do you ever feel like you don’t have what it takes? That other people can be spiritual, but not you?

Then Peter has some words of encouragement for you:

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

The very power of God is available to us. And everything it takes to live life well—to know God and know others, we have in virtue of knowing Jesus Christ. So, if you know Him then these very great and precious promises are yours. By yourself, you don’t have what it takes. But with him, you have all you need.

Has Christian America Come to an End?

Mark Driscoll, pastor of Mars Hill Church responds to Newsweek.

“Has Christian America come to an end? That question has been hotly debated since Newsweek published their recent feature story reporting that the number of Americans claiming no religious affiliation has nearly doubled since 1990. Additionally, the percentage of self-identified Christians has dropped ten points in the past two decades.

As an evangelical pastor with one of America’s fastest-growing churches in one of its least churched cities, I do not find the report surprising or discouraging. Newsweek missed the subtle — but vital — difference between Christian America and Christendom America.” (read on…)

Christian Reviews of Dan Brown’s ‘Angels & Demons’

As I sit here and watch a Discovery channel special on Angels and Demons, I am reminded once again of how often questions of faith and science (and especially the Church’s relationship to these) are misunderstood and misconstrued. Dan Brown is at it again…though this one will not raise the issues that the Da Vinci Code did…

Here are two reviews…

Why do we exist?

“To relish and rejoice in the beauty of God alone accounts for why we exist. Enjoying God is the soul’s sole satisfaction, with which no rival pleasure can hope to compete. Glorifying God by enjoying him forever. It’s the Christian Theory of Everything.”-Sam Storms

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”–Jesus (cf. John 15:11)

Trying to explain this to someone who has never experienced the true joy of knowing and loving God is very difficult. It is like trying to describe a fillet Mignon steak to someone who has never eaten one. But that is what we try to do. We invite those who don’t know God to taste and see. Much of Christian understanding is preceded by experience (though both are necessary for the knowledge of God).

200th Post on Think Christianly & What Happened to My News?

Today we have reached a blogging milestone…200 blogs to help us think Christianly. Thank you for your prayers and support.

My other thought for today is more of a question…what happened to my news????

“News organizations once provided citizens with information and thoughtful commentary so they could make informed choices, but today, real-life tragedies and the mundane failures and heartaches of ordinary people are hyped like new movie releases, complete with special effects…”–Dick Staub

What this means is that stories are selected and arranged to sell commercial dollars and drive ratings…not just inform the public. Now some informing does occur, but it doesn’t matter your news of choice–CNN, FOX, NBC, or ABC–the goal isn’t pure, unbiased reporting. There is always an agenda. So we even need to add a cup of discernment to our nightly news.
